Individuals currently holding
a valid Instructor's Licence may upgrade their licence in
order to conduct more advanced driver education.
GLP designation
-
Enables the instructor to conduct an ICBC-Approved
Driver Education Course which includes the theory and
practical components of the approved course
- Also permits the conduct of theory
training offered outside of an approved course
Prerequisites:
- Completion of a five (5)
day GLP
Instructor's Course;
a Graduated Licensing Program Instructor Course Completion
Certificate (MV2488) is issued upon completion
Theory designation
- Enables the instructor to conduct theory
(in-class) training
- Does not permit the
conduct of an ICBC-Approved Driver Education Course.
An instructor must obtain a GLP designation in order
to do so.
Prerequisites:
- Completion of a Defensive Driving Course for Instructors
at an authorized Instructor Training Facility; a certificate is issued by the Facility upon completion
Commercial Vehicle (Class 1-4 designation)
- Enables
the instructor to conduct training to those wishing
to obtain a class 1, 2, 3 or 4 British Columbia Driver's

Currently,
new applications for a high class designation do not allow
for individuals to obtain class 2, 3 or 4 as separate designations.
An individual must apply for a class 1 designation which automatically
gives an instructor a class 1 through 4 designation
Prerequisites:
- Must be at least 19
years of age
- Have held a class
1 driver's licence for a period of 3 years; and
have held a class 5 driver's licence for at least
5 years
- Must complete an additional
40 hours of instructor training at an authorized
Instructor Training Facility; a completion certificate is issued by the facility upon completion
