  • Weekday courses (5 days): Monday – Thursday, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm and Friday, 9:00 am – 3 pm
  • Weekend courses (2 weekends): Friday, 6 pm – 9 pm and Saturday – Sunday, 9 am – 4:30 pm

Course pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites to take the GLP Instructor Course

Obtaining a GLP designation

What is a GLP designation? A GLP designation is a qualification that allows a licensed driver training instructor to deliver an ICBC (GLP)-approved driver education course.

To obtain a GLP designation:

  • an individual must successfully complete the GLP instructor course,
  • hold a valid British Columbia Driver Training Instructor's Licence, and
  • apply to ICBC's Driver Training Unit to have a GLP designation added to their instructor's licence

Instructors currently holding an instructors licence with a practical and GLP designation can deliver both the in-car and classroom components of an ICBC-approved driver education course.

What will be covered in the course?

The GLP Instructor Course focuses on curriculum content and techniques for leading ICBC-approved driver education courses such as:

  • Developing lesson plans that include a variety of instructional strategies
  • Facilitating groups of adult learners in a classroom situation
  • Assessing student progress throughout a course

What do you have to do to successfully complete the course?

  • Successfully complete all assignments during the course
  • Attend all five days of the course. Withdrawal or absences will require that the entire course be re-taken. The course fee must be paid each time

What can you do to prepare for the course?

  • Read Mapping A Safe Course curriculum and review Sections 5 and 6 of the Instructor Resource Kit. They will receive the official course materials on the first day of class.
  • Reduce your outside commitments to a minimum during the course week – it’s an intensive week with some evening work recommended

What are the course fees?

  • The course fee is $522.50
  • Fees include course instruction and materials
