GLP Instructor Training Course Information

Course Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites to take the GLP Instructor Course

Obtaining a GLP Designation

What is a GLP Designation? A GLP designation is a qualification that allows a driver training instructor to deliver an ICBC-Approved Driver Education Course. A licensed instructor must have this designation in order to deliver an ICBC-Approved Course (classroom or practical instruction).

To obtain a GLP designation:

  • an individual must successfully complete the GLP instructor course,
  • hold a valid British Columbia Driver Training Instructor's Licence, and
  • apply to ICBC's Driver Training Unit to have a GLP designation added to their instructor's licence

Instructors currently holding an instructors licence with a practical and GLP designation can deliver both the in-car and classroom components of an ICBC-approved driver education course.

What will be covered in the course?

The GLP Instructor Course focuses on curriculum content and techniques for leading ICBC-approved driver education courses such as:

  • Developing lesson plans that include a variety of instructional strategies
  • Facilitating groups of adult learners in a classroom situation
  • Assessing student progress throughout a course

What do you have to do to successfully complete the course?

  • Successfully complete all assignments during the course
  • Attend all five days of the course. Withdrawal or absences will require that the entire course be re-taken. The course fee must be paid each time

  • Reduce your outside commitments to a minimum during the course week – it’s an intensive week with some evening work recommended
