The Certification Program administered
by the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) authorizes
facilities to conduct the following services on behalf of
ICBC to the general public:
Driver
certification
Commercial
vehicle (CV) certification: Authorizes the facility
to conduct an assessment of the driving skills of a driver.
This assessment is conducted specifically by an Assessment
Officer employed by the facility who has been authorized by
ICBC to conduct assessments. Upon successful completion of
an assessment, ICBC may waive the required road test conducted by
an ICBC Driver Examiner.
Motorcycle skills assessment (MSA) certification:
Authorizes a facility to conduct a Motorcycle Skills Assessment
of individuals holding a class 6 or 8 Learner's Licence. This assessment
is conducted specifically by an Assessment Officer employed by the facility who has been authorized by ICBC to conduct
motorcycle skills assessments. Upon successful completion
of an assessment, ICBC may waive the required Motorcycle Skills
Test conducted by an ICBC Driver Examiner in order for ICBC to remove
the restriction 11 from the Class 6 or 8 learner's licence (restriction
11 restricts a learner to riding only while supervised by an adult
Class 6 motorcycle operator's licence holder; riding at speed not
exceeding 60km/h; and not riding on freeway portions of highways
1 and 99).
Instructor Training Facility
Certification
Instructor training facility certification authorizes facilities to train and assess individuals to become
driver training instructors. All driver training instructors
conducting driver training to British Columbian's must undergo training
as a requirement to their application for an instructor's licence.
